Garbage and Recycling Information for Residents
Every Thursday, except in cases of holidays, Gill’s Disposal will collect residential garbage and recycling. In case of a holiday, garbage will be delayed by one day.
Place garbage and recycling carts at the curb by 6 am.
Gills Disposal provides unlimited garbage and recycling. Excess waste must be in a garbage container and weigh less than 50 lbs. A 95 gallon cart, that is used in place of the 65 gallon cart, is available upon request through Gills Disposal. One bulk item, weighing less than 50 lbs, is allowed per week. Large bulk items, such as furniture, will need a special scheduled pick up through Gills.
For large items, items weighing more than 50 lbs, or to request a larger 95 gallon cart, please contact Gills Disposal directly. Gills may be contacted by calling (815) 233-5644 or online at gillsfreeportdisposal.com
For questions specific to trash or recycling pick up, please call Gill's Disposal directly.
Yard Waste Collection
Curb-side pick up will typically begin in April and run through the fall, weather permitting. Fall collection will include additional dates.
Yard waste will typically be picked up Monday of each month. All dates are subject to change at the discretion of the Dakota Maintenance Department due to weather.
All items must be placed at the curb by 6am Monday. Items may not be placed at curb on Thursday, during garbage and recycling pick-up.
Collection times may vary. Village of Dakota employees work collection times around the schedules of their primary employment.
Yard waste must be in lawn and leaf paper bags. No plastic bags.
Items that may be included in yard waste include grass clippings, leaves, flowers, plants, garden waste, shrubs, twigs and small limbs.
Small limbs and bundled branches must be less than 4 feet in length and weigh less than 75 pounds. They should be placed neatly at the curb.
The Village will only pick up reasonable amounts of yard waste. All removal of items are at the discretion of the Dakota Maintenance Department.
For larger items or additional questions, please contact the Dakota Village Hall.
